Beginning today, a group local teens — Hudson, Rylee, Malorie & Olivia — are taking over the Friday episodes for the next three weeks. Stemming from the Community Task Force on Youth Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, this group of 14- and 15-year-olds have decided one of the things this growing community conversation on youth mental health needs is the perspective of actual youth. So for the next three Fridays, the microphones are theirs as they bring you candid conversations on mental health, technology, and life as a teen in our suburban community. If you have questions for this group, or topics you’d like to hear more about, please message us through our Link 2 Lee’s Summit Facebook Page or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This week, Jason and Nick look in on the City Council as one member makes a somewhat surprising announcement, the results of strategic planning efforts are made public, and the City sells its rights to a piece of property with no explanation to the public.
Beginning next week, four local youth will take over the Town Hall Friday Conversation episodes on August 16, 23 and 30. This week, host Nick Parker sits down with Kerri Gray, Elizabeth Baldwin and Terry Trafton to talk about the Lee’s Summit Community Task Force on Youth Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, community-wide efforts to decrease associated stigmas and preview the three episodes produced by the youth to address these same topics in their words and for their peers. In the second half of the episode, Nick is joined by two of the four youth hosts as they get listeners ready for their podcast takeover.
