Purple Bench Project creating space for stories & new friends

If you read his columns in Link 2 Lee's Summit you know John Beaudoin to be a passionate follower of local government and one who is never shy about sharing his opinions on the actions of local officials. But sometimes it's easy to overlook his passion for all things Lee's Summit and the people who make up his hometown community.  In this week's episode, Beaudoin drops by The Vault to talk about a new project he and partner Hilary Graves recently launched in downtown. The Purple Bench Project offers a space for local senior citizens to sit and visit with other residents sharing stories and creating new relationships.

A few words from the youth of our community

This week, hosts Nick Parker and Liesl Hays wanted to do something a little different and share the voices of another podcast with the Lee's Summit Community. I Can Relate is a podcast featuring local middle and high school students who choose topics they feel are important and in need of conversation. In this episode, which was part of the most recent season, members of the group talk about transitioning from middle to high school, lingering effects of COVID and offer advice to each other, and any youth listening, as they work their way through their high school years. We’re starting our countdown to a favorite local charity event

This week we're talking about one of our favorite local charity events, Wings 4 Water. Chris Turney and Carrie Williams drop by the vault to catch us up on plans for the 2023 event, which is set for Sept. 14 at Paragon Star. The annual cook-off raises funds to provide access to water in under-served portions of the world, as well as support for local food pantries. A kick-start for young makers & entrepreneurs

Local business owner Brett Jackson enters the vault to chat about an exciting new event built to encourage and support the next generation of entrepreneurs. The Lake Lotawana Children's Business Fair is set for June 17 at the Foxberry Estates clubhouse in eastern Lee's Summit and will feature opportunities for young makers and aspiring entrepreneurs ages 7-14 to showcase their wares for the both the public and a panel of judges. Music, food, vendors — It’s all happening in downtown this weekend!

Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street's Julie Cook and Jenny Gale drop by the vault to talk Downtown Days with hosts Nick Parker and Liesl Hays. The annual festival serves as both the unofficial kick-off to the summer season but also as the main fundraiser for the local nonprofit in its continuing efforts to serve the historic district and keep it as one of the nation's top downtown areas.
