First, a public spat between the mayor and a District 1 Council member surrounding discussion on the now-denied Allera housing development; and second, a law suit filed last week against the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District.

For Olson, who has been through two divorces, the business mission is a personal one and her goal is to provide other women the support she received, but to also provide resources she didn’t find readily available while dealing with her own trauma.

Most of us know about the community’s downtown district and maybe even a little bit about Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, inc., the local not-for-profit working to promote, support and grow the area. But do you really know about the hundreds and hundreds of people, who during the past 30 years have led the grass roots effort to form this organization and turn this small footprint into vital piece of our community’s landscape? DLSMS events coordinator Julie Cook sat down with host Nick Parker to talk about the organization, the people who make it work and how easy it is for others to donate their time, ideas and even money to the cause.

Housing, economics, race — How can we better at addressing these issues?

Whether we’re talking about development or our public school district, housing, economics and race are issues our community is currently addressing. But are we doing it in a helpful and effective way? These are difficult issues, but necessary. And as the City begins it’s strategic planning process, which is essentially a conversation about what we want our future community to be, Jason and Nick take pause to ponder how we can all do a better job of facilitating, and participating in, these conversations. By no means does today’s episode provide the answer, but hopefully it will lead to more and better discussions.
