One last look at the ballot initiatives

Jason and Nick wrap up their breakdown of ballot initiatives before next week’s election. This week, the duo discusses the two proposed amendments and one proposition centered around the legalization of medical marijuana.

The judges and the amendments

Jason and Nick continue their look at the upcoming election this week with a look at how we vote for judges and walk through the field of proposed amendments to the Jackson County Charter. Once again, it’s all about process.

Developing potential

Jason took a vacation this week, but being the hard-working loyal sidekick he is, he took some time to pre-record an interview with representatives from local service organization, Developing Potential, inc. Development director Amy Cox and board member Bob Glaser sat down with Jason and Nick to talk about the services offered to local residents as well as some exciting growth news and how you can help them reach their goals.

They both started as band musicians. Neither planned to become teachers. They are a generation apart and first came together as teacher and student. Both spent a career conducting orchestras in the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District and the Kansas City Youth Symphony. This year, as the Lee’s Summit Symphony opens its 16th season, the two are united yet again — this time as co-conductors. This is Russ Berlin and Kirt Mosier.

Hosts and Jason and Nick also take a little time to review Mayor Bill Baird’s first State of the City address and start to open a conversation on the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District and it’s current facilities master plan and school boundary processes.

You read that right. This week is your opportunity to eat some wings and do some good. Lee’s Summit attorney Chris Turney joins the show to talk about his Wings 4 Water charity event taking place Thursday night in the parking lot at Bridge Space in downtown Lee’s Summit. Before Jason and Nick get to the wings, though, they talk a little about a proposed office development in downtown Lee’s Summit and how the developer has made changes to the plan based on feedback from area residents, property owners and other stakeholders.

Looking forward and celebrating arts in our schools

It’s Arts in Education week. Nick and Jason sit down with Jeannine Akins and Aimee Fresia, of the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, to talk about the role the arts play in our schools, as well as some of the programming going on in the district. But before they get there, the guys point out some upcoming opportunities for residents to make their voices heard on the future of our City.
